Dutch UPC Bench Bar Meeting

The fourth edition of the 'Dutch UPC Bench Bar Meeting', organized by and for UPC representatives in cooperation with the UPC Judges in The Hague. These meetings aim not only to promote the exchange of knowledge, but also to further raise the profile of the UPC system and the local division in The Hague. The initiative is supported by a large number of firms active in the UPC: Bird & Bird, De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, Brinkhof, Freshfields, Hogan Lovells, Hoyng ROKH Monegier, Kennedy Van der Laan, La Gro, Pinsent Masons, Simmons & Simmons, Taylor Wessing, and Vondst.

The meeting will be held on Thursday 4 September 2025 at the offices of Hogan Lovells in Amsterdam. The meeting will start at 4:30 pm (CEST), with the doors open at 4 pm. A networking reception starting around 6 pm will conclude the afternoon.

The meeting will center around validity and will explore the relation between the UPC and the EPO looking at timing, stays, auxiliary requests and validity tests applied, as well as the interaction between different divisions of the UPC looking at issues such as timing, bifurcation, squeezes and impact.

The session will be in the form of a panel discussion with plenty of opportunity for interaction from the audience.

Panelists will be UPC Judges Margot Kokke and Edger Brinkman as well as UPC representatives Wim Maas (Taylor Wessing), Mari Korsten (NLO) and Ruud van der Velden (Hogan Lovells).

The Chatham House Rule applies.

The meeting will be conducted in English, with an option for UPC representatives from abroad to participate online. The option to participate online is also available for UPC representatives from the Netherlands.
