Driving transition: Hogan Lovells advises Exolum on €70 million investment in the construction of a new fuel storage facility at Düsseldorf Airport
Global law firm Hogan Lovells has advised Exolum, the world’s leading independent aviation logistics company and Europe’s benchmark in the management of bulk liquid and gas storage and distribution infrastructures, on a €70 million investment at Düsseldorf Airport.
The investment includes the construction, operation, connection and maintenance of the new fuel storage and distribution terminal at Germany’s fourth largest airport. The new facility will replace two current storage plants and increase capacity to 9,000 m³, 41% more than at present. This will significantly increase security of supply while enabling greater use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and sulphur-free kerosene. Exolum will operate the terminal for 20 years, extendable to 25, after which the infrastructure will become the property of the airports public operator FDG. The construction is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026.
Exolum is the world's leading independent aviation logistics company and Europe's leading storage and distribution infrastructure management company for bulk liquids and gases. With extensive international experience, the company operates in 49 airports across Europe and Latin America.
Hogan Lovells comprehensively advised Exolum on its participation in the EU-wide tender procedure and, in this context, negotiated the lease agreement with the airport operator FDG for the commercial space, including construction and operational obligations.
