Future of Energy: Hogan Lovells advises ICG Infra on a partnership with W Power Storage

Press releases | 16 December 2025

Led by partners Dr. Tim Heitling and Dr. Thomas Dörmer global law firm Hogan Lovells has advised the European Infrastructure team of ICG, the global alternative asset manager, on a partnership with W Power Storage, a German platform specialising in grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS).

Headquartered in Heidelberg, Germany, W Power combines expertise in land acquisition, permitting, engineering, construction and the operation of grid-scale BESS. With ICG Infra’s backing, the platform plans to deploy up to €500m to deliver its multi-gigawatt BESS project pipeline, with projects already in operation and under construction. In addition, the platform will contribute to meeting the objectives of the EU Green Deal and Germany’s climate neutrality targets. The newly formed partnership adds to ICG Infra’s existing portfolio of assets in the energy transition sector.

Hogan Lovells has advised ICG Infra on all legal aspects of the transaction. The team is highly specialised in energy and infrastructure projects, with particular expertise in the development, financing and structuring of assets across the energy transition value chain. Drawing on its cross-practice capabilities, the team regularly advises investors, developers and asset managers on complex domestic and cross-border transactions in the renewable energy and storage sectors.
