Hogan Lovells’ ELTEMATE wins Disruptive Technology of the Year at European Legal Innovation & Technology Awards 2025
Milan, 3 June 2025 – ELTEMATE, the legal tech venture of global law firm Hogan Lovells, has been awarded Disruptive Technology of the Year at the European Legal Innovation & Technology Awards 2025.
The prestigious award recognises the groundbreaking impact of ELTEMATE CRAIG, a generative AI-powered tool that transforms how legal teams process and assess large volumes of complex documents.
Built into ELTEMATE’s flagship AI platform CRAIG, for example the Chronology Generator enables users to instantly organise data into clear timelines, answer key case questions, and interact directly with the source material. Originally developed for litigation support, the module has delivered time savings of 42% and increased case-handling speed tenfold in some instances, helping clients accelerate strategy development and reduce costs across high-volume disputes.
Sebastian Lach, partner at Hogan Lovells and Co-CEO of ELTEMATE, commented: “Winning this award is another milestone for ELTEMATE. CRAIG is not just a productivity tool, it's a leap forward in how legal professionals interact with complex information. By combining the precision of AI with the insights of our global legal teams, we’re reshaping how law is practiced and delivered.”
Headquartered in Amsterdam, ELTEMATE combines cutting-edge software engineering with Hogan Lovells’ legal expertise to develop proprietary tools tailored to the realities of legal work. CRAIG is already in use by Hogan Lovells’ lawyers and clients worldwide, and will soon also introduce a broader Smart AI Database for even broader case management.
In addition to the Disruptive Technology win, Hogan Lovells also took home the CSR Innovation award for its pro bono work with The Human Safety Net, Generali’s global citizenship foundation, and social enterprise Ninety. The collaboration produced Migrasure, an insurance-backed product enabling refugees to access private housing in Germany – a solution already reaching thousands and expected to expand across Europe.
Christoph Küppers, partner at Hogan Lovells, said: “This recognition is testament to the power of partnership, between private enterprise, legal teams, and civil society. Through HL BaSE, we’re not only offering pro bono advice but co-creating scalable solutions to real-world challenges like refugee integration. We’re proud to support The Human Safety Net in building a more inclusive Europe.”
The impact of Hogan Lovells’ advice on Migrasure was multi-jurisdictional, spanning beyond Germany. While initial implementation focused on Generali’s German operations, the project originated from its Venice-based HQ and is expected to expand to across Europe.
The European Legal Innovation & Technology Awards, hosted this year in Milan, celebrate firms and individuals driving meaningful transformation in the legal sector through innovation, technology, and social impact.
