Hogan Lovells opens applications for the 2026 Nicholas Cheffings Para Athlete Bursary
London, 23 October 2025 – Global law firm Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce the launch of its 2026 Nicholas Cheffings Para Athlete Bursary applications.
The Nicholas Cheffings Para Athlete Bursaries will support ten athletes on their journey to the next Paralympic Games, with a focus on the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games and the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games. Eligible Para athletes recognised by ParalympicsGB and their National Governing Body can apply for a one-off bursary to assist with any aspect of their sporting development. This could include purchasing or upgrading essential equipment. It may also help fund travel to training camps and competitions, or provide access to additional coaching and performance support.
Hogan Lovells partner Richard Welfare, who leads the firm’s partnership with ParalympicsGB, commented: “We’re proud to launch the 2026 Nicholas Cheffings Para Athlete Bursary, continuing our long-standing commitment to supporting the development of talented Para athletes. For many recipients, this bursary provides a vital boost that helps them overcome barriers—whether that’s accessing specialist coaching, travelling to competitions, or investing in essential equipment. It’s inspiring to see the difference this support makes as athletes pursue their Paralympic dreams.”
UK Managing Partner, Penny Angell, added: “At Hogan Lovells, inclusion and opportunity are central to who we are and how we do business. Through our partnership with ParalympicsGB, we are proud to play a part in helping Para athletes reach their full potential- on and off the field of play. The Nicholas Cheffings Para Athlete Bursary reflects our firm’s ongoing commitment to creating meaningful social impact and celebrating the power of sport to inspire change.”
Hogan Lovells is proud to be the Official Legal Services Provider of ParalympicsGB and as a firm committed to responsible business practices and wider social impact. Launching the bursary for the ninth consecutive year and having been a longstanding Gold Partner since 2012 Hogan Lovells is pleased to continue its support of the team, helping it to achieve successful performances at every winter and summer Paralympic Games.
ParalympicsGB athlete and 2025 bursary recipient, Eliza Humphrey, commented: “I am really grateful for the Nicholas Cheffings Bursary by Hogan Lovells through which I have been able to purchase specialist Bluetooth headsets enabling direct communication with a coach whilst training. This allows for real-time feedback from the coach thereby helping me improve my efficiency and performances in the pool. The bursary has also enabled me to fund equipment specifically for my disability such as blackened goggles and tappers, without which I wouldn’t be able to train and compete safely. “
David Clarke, Chief Executive Officer at ParalympicsGB said: “I’m delighted that our long-standing, successful relationship with Hogan Lovells and their valued Para athlete bursary continues. It’s no secret that for any athlete, training and competing at a high level requires dedication, sacrifice and financial commitment, and the Nicholas Cheffings athlete bursary plays a vital role in recognising this and supporting Para athletes on that journey.”
Athletes can apply for the Nicholas Cheffings Para Athlete Bursary here. Please submit applications to paralympics@hoganlovells.com by midnight on Friday 12 December 2025. Recipients will be announced by February 2026.
