James is an associate in our Antitrust, Competition and Economic Regulation practice.  He provides pragmatic and business-orientated advice on all aspects of EU and UK competition law, including on multi-jurisdictional merger control, antitrust investigations and competition law compliance, as well as on the application of the UK's subsidy control rules.  James also has experience acting for clients in relation to competition litigation, having worked on class actions and stand-alone claims before the CAT and the English High Court.

Representative experience

Advising IBM on its $6.4bn acquisition of cloud infrastructure company HashiCorp.

Advising Oxford Ionics, a leading UK quantum computing company, on its $1.1 billion sale to IonQ.  

Advising Dick's Sporting Goods on the ex-US merger control aspects of its $2.5 billion acquisition of Foot Locker.

Advising a leading sports team on the development of a governance structure for one of the world's oldest international sports trophies.

Acting for clients in standalone and class action claims resulting from an alleged breach of competition law.

Advising UK public authorities (including central government departments and arms-length bodies) on subsidy control assessments, scheme design and relevant procedural requirements.
