Jimmy McEntee is a trusted litigator and strategic counselor with a focus on the sports industry.

From high-stakes NCAA enforcement actions to novel sports and entertainment disputes, Jimmy’s clients turn to him for reasoned advice and creative arguments that win cases and achieve results. Jimmy has tried numerous cases in state and federal courts and in arbitration, including more than 15 matters as lead counsel. His clients have included large corporations, leading universities, professional sports teams, and executives of Fortune 500 companies. He also maintains an active pro bono practice, with a focus on innocence litigation, representing survivors of domestic violence in obtaining civil protection orders against their abusers, and opposing the use of solitary confinement.

Although Jimmy is a generalist, he has carved a unique specialty litigating cases for sports clients. Jimmy regularly represents sports teams and leagues in consumer-facing litigation, including claims related to ticket fee disclosures and privacy laws. Jimmy has developed a particular niche as go-to counsel for Major League Baseball clubs in salary arbitration cases against players, with a 10–6 record as lead counsel. He has also represented National Hockey League teams in salary arbitration cases and is the only practitioner in recent years to represent both MLB and NHL clubs in such proceedings.

Before joining Hogan Lovells, Jimmy clerked for Judge Gerald J. Pappert of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School, during which he worked as a legal intern at Major League Baseball, a law clerk at the National Football League, and a salary-arbitration extern with the Minnesota Twins and Washington Capitals.
