Derrick is an experienced litigator and trusted advisor to leading companies navigating complex commercial litigation and high-stakes government investigations and enforcement actions. He has a particular focus on data privacy, cybersecurity, and consumer protection related matters but also has deep experience with White Collar Investigations and Defense. Derrick joined the firm after serving as Associate General Counsel and Corporate Counsel for Meta Platforms, Inc., and Google, respectively. As in-house counsel, he was lead counsel for matters related to government investigations and regulatory enforcement, corporate compliance, and incident response. 

Prior to working in-house, Derrick served as an Assistant United States Attorney where he prosecuted hundreds of cases in the District Court for the District of Columbia and the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.  He was lead prosecutor in more than 30 bench and jury trials and his prosecutorial experience includes matters related to Health Care Fraud, Mail and Wire Fraud, and a range of violent and drug related offenses.

Derrick began his legal career after clerking in the Eastern District of Arkansas for The Honorable Judge Brian S. Miller and working as an Associate attorney at a major law firm focused on Government Contracts and White Collar Defense. 

Derrick has a well-rounded legal perspective that allows him to provide trusted advice and skilled experience to clients facing complex legal issues that require high-level substantive and strategic thinking.

Lead counsel for major technology company advising on data security incident that impacted millions of U.S. based customers.*

Lead counsel for major technology company advising on regulatory response to federal investigation of company’s compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). *
