Melissa Ordonez is an internationally recognized arbitration practitioner with over 15 years of experience in both commercial and investment treaty arbitration. She acts as counsel and arbitrator in complex, high-value disputes under all major arbitration rules, including ICC, LCIA, ICSID, and UNCITRAL, representing multinational corporations and sovereign states.

Melissa’s expertise covers investor-state disputes as well as a wide range of commercial disputes (including post-M&A, shareholders, and infrastructure disputes), across key industries such as mining, energy, technology, luxury, and telecommunications. She has a particular focus on emerging markets notably Latin America and Africa, as well as Europe. 

Known for her strategic approach and ability to navigate cross-jurisdictional disputes, she regularly advises clients on sensitive, high-stakes matters.

A recognized thought leader in the field, Melissa is a member of the ICC Global Commission, serves on the ICSID Panel of Conciliators, and has been named a Global Elite Thought Leader Under 45 by Who’s Who Legal/Lexology. She frequently contributes to shaping the future of international arbitration through publications and speaking engagements.

French-Colombian by background, Melissa has lived in Sweden, the Netherlands, and the UK, bringing a unique multicultural perspective to her work. She is fluent in English, French, and Spanish. 

Melissa holds degrees from King’s College London and the Sorbonne University, where she studied on a full scholarship awarded for academic excellence.

Representing a Central Asian state in an UNCITRAL arbitration brought by a Canadian mining company under the Energy Charter Treaty relating to uranium mining licenses.

Representing a French investor in an ICSID treaty arbitration against an Eastern European State regarding the introduction of tax reforms by the State.

Representing a Latin American state in an ICSID arbitration brought under bilateral investment treaty by a company in the coffee industry.

Representing a Swiss company in an ICC arbitral proceeding regarding the takeover of a Milan based fashion luxury goods company.

Representing a Latin American state in an ICSID arbitration brought under a bilateral investment treaty by a company having invested in the petrochemicals industry.

Advising a Spanish electric utility company in pre-arbitration proceedings against a North African petroleum company in relation to a gas price review dispute.

Assisting a French-aerospace company in a dispute against a Mediterranean Airline Company in an ICC arbitral proceeding regarding the performance of an engine maintenance services agreement.

Representing the Republic of Colombia in an investment arbitration initiated by a technology company, with financial stakes exceeding USD 350 million (ICSID Case No. ARB/20/7).

Representation of the Democratic Republic of Congo in an investment ICSID arbitration initiated by an African bank. 

Representing a European oil and gas production company in high-value ICC arbitration proceedings against another European oil and gas company, concerning a price review of a long-term gas contract.

Acting for one of the world leaders in information technologies, in ICC arbitration proceedings seated in Paris relating to its Tunisian entity.
